Exclusive Master Class for Writers with Deeanne Gist

What Can I Expect?
- Deeanne will present daily workshops on subjects such as plotting, dialog, editing, common pitfalls, and more.
- 2022 only: Each attendee will receive a private one-on-one session with Deeanne to discuss their WIP (work-in-progress).
- 2022 only: Deeanne will work with attendees to help them develop an “elevator pitch” for their novel.
- 2022 only: Attendees will read an assigned novel in advance and participate in a discussion about the techniques the author used.
- 2022 only: Attendees will participate in a writing critique group.
- 2022 only: Attendees will gather for social time during meals.
- 2022 only: Evenings will be free so attendees can complete a writing assignment given by Deeanne.
- 2022 only: The last day will include dinner and a special time of community fellowship.
What is included & how much does it cost?
- At least six educational workshops on the craft of writing fiction presented by Deeanne.
- Intimate writing community among attendees.
- Lunch & dinner provided.
- Coffee, tea, soda, water, and snacks will be available throughout each day.
- WiFi access.
- 2022 only: $2000 per person.
- 2022 only: One-on-one private session with Deeanne.
- 2022 only: An optional movie in Deeanne’s home theater on Monday.
- 2022 only: Application of what you’ve learned through writing exercises, book club discussion and critiques.
- 2022 only: A special dinner celebration on Thursday evening.
House Mom
2022 only: Deeanne will have a “House Mom” to host attendees and point them in the right direction if they have any needs during the event.
What is not included?
- Workshops will be craft-oriented. Workshops on the business-side of publishing will not be included. (Self-publishing, marketing, agents, social media, taxes, etc.)
- 2022 only: Transportation to/from Deeanne’s home is not included. She lives in a very rural area. The Greenville/Spartanburg airport (GSP) is 52 miles east of her home and the closest. The Asheville airport (AVL) is 66 miles northeast. Charlotte (CLT) is 140 miles northeast. Atlanta (ATL) is 146 miles southwest.
- 2022 only: Accommodations are not included. The closest hotels to Deeanne’s home are located in Clemson and Seneca (South Carolina).
- 2022 only: Once your application is accepted for attendance to the retreat, you will be invited to a private Facebook group where you can discuss carpooling with other attendees.
Who is eligible to attend?
- Applicants must be over the age of 18.
- Ethnicity, gender, or religious associations are of no significance in considering individuals applying.
- Fiction writers only.
- The workshops Deeanne presents will apply to all fiction genres including but not limited to contemporary, historical, suspense, fantasy, inspirational, mainstream, etc.
- Don’t be intimidated! Writers of ALL levels are eligible: beginning or experienced, published or non-published, traditionally published or independently published. Ninety percent of Deeanne’s last workshop held brand new writers—some who had never written anything until they received a writing exercise from Deeanne during one of her workshops.
- Friends/couples who wish to attend must both be writers and participating attendees.
- There are a maximum of twelve openings available. Once all openings have been filled, others will be placed on a waiting list.
